LCA for ESG Practitioners & Supply Chain Pros: Building Product Carbon Footprints & EPDs

Sustainability reporting is entering a new phase. Global adoption of IFRS S1 and S2, alongside ISO 14040/44 for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and product-level standards such as EN 15804, is raising expectations for how organisations measure and substantiate environmental performance. Across minerals, materials, manufacturing, and the built environment, expectations are shifting from high-level commitments to decision-grade data.

Globally, over 70% of large investors now expect companies to disclose climate and product-level emissions data with a level of rigour comparable to financial reporting. For many organisations, this translates into growing pressure to produce credible Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), not only to satisfy investors, but also to maintain market access, qualify for tenders, and meet tightening regulatory requirements.

Meeting these expectations requires more than familiarity with standards. ESG practitioners, engineers, supply-chain leaders, and compliance professionals must develop hands-on LCA capabilities, from setting goals and scope and building robust inventories, to making defensible modelling choices and managing data quality.

This intensive, practitioner-led three-day workshop is designed to close that capability gap. It builds the practical skills required to plan, execute, and communicate LCAs that stand up to stakeholder scrutiny. The programme is tailored for ESG practitioners, while also functioning as a stand-alone course for non-ESG professionals seeking applied LCA competence. It links LCA fundamentals directly to PCF development and the preparation of EPDs for products and services.

Participants will work through the full ISO LCA framework, addressing core technical challenges, including functional units, system boundaries, allocation, circularity, and end-of-life modelling. The workshop will also cover Product Category Rules (PCRs), EPD programme requirements, data quality and uncertainty, and the practical steps needed to produce EPD-ready outputs.

Day three is a full software lab. Participants will build a simple product model, calculate a PCF, run sensitivity analyses, and generate outputs suitable for EPD development. By the end of the programme, participants leave with practical templates, a starter model, and a clear, step-by-step pathway toward producing their first verified EPD.
